Cross-cultural critical thinking profiles: A multigroup latent profile analysis

Critical thinking (CT) is an important 21st-century skill which enables individuals to actively use their knowledge and problem-solving skills overcome life challenges. Educators, employers, policymakers focus on CT foster scientific in education. In many countries, the development of has become a major component training offered students based assumption that every student learns these same manner (i.e., homogeneity assumption). However, if heterogenous groups exist, accounting for this may provide more effective training. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was applied Cornell Thinking Test (CCTT) with middle school from South Korea (N = 520), Turkey 996), United States 1,599), separately, determine subpopulations exist each country. Generalizability latent profiles across countries were investigated through multi-group LPA similarity assessment. Employing multiple fit criteria, three-profile solution identified country, supported countries. Similar suggest interventions developing be appropriate educational contexts. Further work needed understand mechanisms behind student's inform or curricula fostering skills. Future directions limitations discussed.
